The Top Ten Diet Myths

Ross A. Hauser, M.D.

Myth #1: Everyone Should Be On This One Diet

Does it make intuitive sense to you that every single individual on the planet should all follow the same exact diet? Should everyone on planet earth follow the Atkins’ diet? The Pritikin Diet? Should we all eat the Mediterranean diet? That makes no sense at all. This is one of the reasons I don’t read diet books. I know they are going to say that everyone should be on the same diet (whichever diet they are promoting). The Hauser Diet is about which Diet Type a person needs to be on. It is easy to figure out. Do you eat exactly the same foods in the hot summer months as you do in the cold of winter? Should someone living in Alaska eat the same foods as someone in the Arizona dessert? We don’t think so and neither should you. The Hauser Diet shows that there is a testing procedure a person can undergo to find out which diet is best for them.

Truth: Not everyone should be on anyone particular diet.

Myth #2: Eat This Particular Diet For Its Health Benefits

This particular myth is promoted by both the carnivore people (Atkins) and the vegetarian proponents (Pritikin). Now it is being promoted by the Mediterranean diet people. The bottom line is if you fed a bunch of Lions at the zoo the giraffe diet they would get very sick and some would die. Start feeding a bunch of giraffes a deer carcass and see how healthy they become. Only when a person a fed a particular diet that will help their own individual physiology get optimal will a diet truly help them become healthy. Only with Hauser Diet Typing can a person know which particular foods they need to eat for their individual metabolism.

Truth: The same diet can make some people extremely healthy and can make another person very sick.

Myth #3: This Particular Diet Helps This Particular Health Problem

This is similar to Myth #2 but this one is espoused even more frequently then myth #2. Doctors will do a study and show that a high protein diet helps with decreasing a certain parameter of heart disease. The assumption is then that everyone with heart disease should go on this particular diet. This is a myth. For a giraffe diet type to eat that way will increase their risk of heart disease. The only way to know for sure is to get Hauser Diet Typing.

Truth: A particular diet can help a lot of people with a particular health concern will make that health concern worse in others.

Myth #4: I Want All My Friends To Be On This Diet

At Caring Medical we hear that a lot. A person does great on a vegetarian diet then they want everyone they know to be on it. They talk one of their friends to go on it and they feel terrible on it. They then fight about it and end up loosing a friend. The bottom line is the person who feels great on a vegetarian diet is a Monkey or Giraffe Diet Type but not everyone is. Some people need a whole lot of protein. Yes, some people do prosper by eating meat. To think that everyone in the world should eat the same way as you is prideful and makes no sense.

Truth: The diet you are on is making you feel good but it could make your friends, family and others feel worse.

Myth #5: You Can Get All Of The Nutrients You Need From The Food You Eat

If you want optimal health it just isn’t possible. If you have no stress and can sleep all day then maybe. If you have an active lifestyle I don’t care if you eat perfectly for your Hauser Diet Type if we tested you, we would find some nutrient deficiencies. If you exercise we will find even more because of all the repair that has to occur after each exercise session. Just about everyone needs to take nutritional supplements for optimal health.

Truth: 99% of the population needs to take nutritional supplements for optimal health.

Myth #6: I Need To Stay On This Diet For The Rest Of My Life

People lose weight and say “I am going to eat this way the rest of my life.” I got news for you; your metabolism is not going to stay the same. Hormones are going to tank. You may get pregnant. An illness may strike you. Your exercise regime will change. You may move into a different climate. It is likely that you will have to eat a lot differently at certain times of your life to feel great. The Hauser Diet explains why during different times of your life your diet has to change for optimal wellness.

Truth: To stay healthy throughout a lifetime, a person’s diet will have to change.

Myth #7: There Is No Way To Tell For Sure What Kinds Of Foods I Need To Eat

Some people just give up and just eat whatever they feel like. They generally end up in the hospital. There is a definitive way to know what to eat and that is the testing protocol of Hauser Diet Typing. By knowing a persons baseline fasting venous blood pH, modified glucose tolerance test and food allergy test results, along with knowing their current diet, the percentages of proteins/fats/ and carbohydrates can be determined for that person. By knowing their body weight, height and activity level the number of calories they need to consume can be calculated. With all of this information, the person can then know exactly what to eat and how much.

Truth: Hauser Diet Tying is the method by which a person knows exactly what to eat and how much.

Myth #8: All Diets Are Just Fad Diets

A fad is defined as something that is practiced with intense interest for a time and then fades. It doesn’t last. Why? Because it wasn’t true. Why wasn’t it true? I have told in all these myths! One diet doesn’t work for everyone. The Hauser Diet is the only diet protocol that a person can be tested for which particular Hauser Diet Type they are. Then when their health changes they can get retested to see if their particular needs have changed. So in The Hauser Diet we are saying you can know for sure what diet you need to follow and as long as you feel great, great! If you stop feeling great, we’ll figure out why and tell you how to adjust it.

Truth: The Hauser Diet Type that a person is today may not be the one they are in the future.

Myth #9: I Can't Do That Diet

Clinicians who do diet counseling here people say all the time “I just can’t do it!” Well let me tell you something if I told you to eat a 1500 calorie vegetarian diet (Giraffe Diet Type) because it will help you get to your normal weight and optimum health you could do it. Even if you said “I just can’t do it! I love meat too much.” I would tell you, you could do it because if I gave you $1000 for every week you did the diet you would do it every week for the rest of your life. Don’t give me that bunk that you can’t do it. You can do it. If you don’t do it it is because you don’t want to do it.

Truth: People with the right attitude and motivation can stick to any particular diet.

Myth #10: To Be Healthy All You Need To Do Is Stick With This Diet

This myth applies to the Hauser Diet also. There are many facets to a person’s health. Diet is one of them. Stress is another. Factors such as hormones, genetics, lifestyle, rest, individual biochemistry, relationships, exercise habits and of course the way a person thinks (positive attitude versus negative attitude) determine a person’s health. For a diet promoter to say all you need to do is this diet to stay happy, healthy and wealthy is again a myth.

Truth: There are many facets to a person’s health. Diet is only one of them.

Myth #11: Weight Loss Has Only To Do With Calories In And Calories Out

This will probably be my most controversial myth. I am telling you I can eat more calories of a carnivorous diet and maintain my weight then if I eat a lot of carbohydrates. In other words, I generally type out the Otter Diet Type. If I get 75% of my calories from fat and protein I feel great and maintain my 150 pound 8% body fat frame. With this particular diet I can consume anywhere from 2500-2700 calories. If I eat a Monkey or more vegetarian diet where I am getting 75% of my calories from carbohydrates, if I consume 2500-2700 calories I feel much more fatigue and gain weight and gain it quickly. With this more carbohydrate diet I can only eat about 2200 calories. The only explanation for this is that my basal metabolic rate is higher when I eat the appropriate Hauser Diet Type.

Truth: A person can consume more calories when eating the appropriate Hauser Diet Type then when they don’t.
