Sometimes you just never know
how someone’s words will touch you. I received this
Christmas card last year from a patient of Caring Medical
(her name has been changed):
Dear Dr. Hauser:
I just wanted to express my gratitude for
your generosity and caring. I really appreciate how authentic
you are, and have enjoyed being treated with respect from
you and all of your staff (something I’m not used to
from the medical profession.)
Please visit me if you are ever
in the area or wish to experience a quiet and contemplative
vacation or fast.
~Heather
That was it in its entirety. It doesn’t seem
like much, but it is monumental. It is one of my most treasured
possessions and I have it right here with me. It is confirmation
that love, kindness, and respect can win over the most ardent
skeptic. When Heather came to Caring Medical she was rather
hopeless. She was in a job where she was not respected. I
was confident that she was great at her chosen occupation,
but because of her health problems (including chronic back
pain) and her lack of job satisfaction, her life was not
too happy. As she alluded to in her letter, the staff at
Caring Medical, myself included, treated her like we try
to treat everyone. She responded not only to the treatment,
but also to our kindness. In the end, Heather got a job in
a warmer climate and where she is appreciated. We just emailed
each other and she is doing terrific. She is well liked and
respected and in a community of people that believe and think
like she does.
I hope that in your chosen profession you
might get the love, kindness and respect you deserve. If
you have a health concern, I hope you will give Caring
Medical a try – Hope IS Practiced Here.
