Marion and I love to go to Waterfall
Glen for our long runs. It is a
9.4 mile loop that is about 25 minutes from our home. It is
a gravel path
through lakes, ponds and has basically no car traffic. It is
just a
great place to run because there are mile markers and lots
of hills.
The trek is very windy so even when a lot of people are using
it, you
don't see very many people. This run was 7 weeks out from Ironman.
I
had cycled 104.6 miles the day before averaging 16.9 mph. I
ran 5.5
miles after that in 45 minutes. My goal for the 20 mile run
was 8:45
pace and I did it in 8:30 pace. I did a slight negative split
(2nd ten
miles faster than first) so that was a plus. This run coupled
with the
workout the day before gave me a much needed confidence boost
going
into
this Ironman race.
