M. HAUSER WINS CLAMSHELL GAUNTLET!!!
BOTH HAUSERS SET PRs IN GOLDEN APPLE 5K
J. CHEN AND K. HORVAT STORM NEW YORK MARATHON

While most athletes ready to tackle the Golden Apple 5K were at home warming their toes before the race, Marion Hauser and her training partner Giulia Isetti (pronounced Julia) were running twelve miles in the 30 degree Chicago weather.  Marion finished her 12 mile run with Giulia shortly before the start of the Golden Apple 5K and still managed to break 28 minutes in the 5K, setting a personal record. Her 27:45 in the Golden Apple 5K despite the weather and running 12 miles in the cold weather beforehand, gave her unanimous support from Team Gauntlet to be keeper of the Clamshell Gauntlet.   "I held my pace steady.  I wanted to run 15 miles, as Coach Pete's scheduled.  So the best way was to do 12 miles before the Golden Apple and finish my 15 miler with the 5K. Giulia has been a great training partner.  We talk and laugh the whole time. She has helped me tremendously, as have the rest my Team Gauntlet training partners, including the Sanibel Somethings!  I'm not sure what I am going to do with this trophy, but I appreciate winning it!"  Marions previous 5K PR of just over 28 minutes was at a 5K in Boston in 2005.

Other participants in the Golden Apple 5K were host Tim Kenny who broke 20 minutes despite limited training. All we can say is amazing! Kim Katz ran 23 minutes and was happy with her time. Ross Hauser set a 5 second PR at 18:39 and won his age group. Both Hausers will compete with other Team Gauntlet members for the Clamshell Gauntlet South Trophy at Miamiman November 11th.

Kristin Horvat and John Chen were able to watch the November 3rd Men's Marathon Olympic Trial on November 3rd because they were in New York City to compete in the New York Marathon. They both paced themselves well with Kristin finishing in 3:40 (amazing!) and John Chen at 3:29 (double amazing!). This reporter has not been able to contact them but will report on there races once they are interviewed. Congratulations Kristin and John, great races!
